During fumigation, a room is flooded with a toxic gas to combat pests/bacteria. As these are toxic gases, special safety measures are required. Fumigation is commonly used in the storage of organic materials (e.g. grain storage, in harbor warehouses, silos, mills) and also in churches to combat woodworm.

It is a device that is used to disinfect rooms. Formaldehyde is boiled on the left hotplate and placed together with condensed water (right hotplate) in an air stream in a room and kills all bacteria there.
